We have been making ice cream on the premises since 1957.

There is a long tradition of ice cream at il Borgo and it is of the highest quality, lovingly hand made from only natural ingredients. The ice cream is prepared with pasteurised products which ensures we are able to meet the highest food safety standards.

The various flavours are made with carefully chosen ingredients. Some examples include Lindt chocolate, hazelnuts (from the nearby Cimini Mountains) and Sicilian pistachio. There is always a new flavour of the day to try such as Roche with delicious Nutella, chocolate, wafer and hazelnut cream, the ice cream made with rice, cinnamon, pine nuts, grapes and rum, to celebrate the festival of San Giuseppe. We also have a wide selection of ice cream deserts with extra cream, fruit or yogurt complete with rich garnishes.

If you are in Viterbo you can visit our ice cream parlour which has been open since 2003. You will find us in via San Lorenzo 22, in the medieval quarter.

Yogurts

The more health conscious will be pleased to know that they can still enjoy a little indulgence as well as flavour because we offer frozen low fat yogurt. Our frozen yogurt sold in a thermal carton maintains its temperature until the moment you eat it. We would recommend adding some fresh fruit or cereal or for those with a sweet tooth Nutella, white chocolate or praline.

Crepes

Our crepes are made simply with fresh eggs milk and flour and a drop of vanilla essence. They come with a diverse selection of fillings such as Nutella, honey, hazelnut sauce and even praline, coconut and cereal. For those of you who would like to try something original there’s the Mexican with cinnamon and chilli.

Cakes

Our home made cakes and pastries offer a wide selection of different flavours to have with tea, herbal teas, infusions and hot chocolate. I tozzetti alle Nocciole are one of the most well known local types of cake as are our Marrons Glacés with locally picked chestnuts.

Every day we have fresh traditional Neapolitan pastries and cakes such as sfogliatelle and babba.

Cakes can be made to order for every occasion such as birthdays and anniversaries. Special personalised desserts can also be made using our hand made ice cream.

At Easter every year we make “Pizza di Pasqua” (Easter cake) which we traditionally eat for breakfast on Easter Sunday together with cured meat and boiled eggs – a local take on the classic full English breakfast! At Christmas we make Panettoni and Pandoro Semifredo decorated with Christmas themes. On 17th January in Bagnaia we celebrate Sant’Antonio, the patron saint of animals, with a large bonfire in the main piazza which is lit on the evening of the 16th January. We also have a big party with music and a barbeque. During this period we eat typical Bagnaian deserts – horse shaped biscuits decorated with candy and chocolate. For the two week long carnival period you will discover various different sweets and cakes specially made for this time of year such as Frappe, Castagnole and Zeppole full of custard. The 19th March is the festival of San Guiseppe when you can try fantastic deep fried cakes made from rice flour, pine nuts and eggs made from an old family recipe. Meanwhile in November we eat the chocolate fish of Sant’Andrea. The evening before it is traditional for children leave an empty plate outside their window and in the morning they find a fish bought by the patron saint of fishermen.
